Wizz Air changes baggage rules

Eastern European airline Wizz Air has announced that it will charge passengers to check in luggage in the future.

The low-cost carrier said that passengers will now have to pay €3 (£2.50) at the time of booking for every bag they wish to check in. If passengers opt to pay at the airport, this fee will increase to €6 (£5).

Wizz Air said that the move would speed up the check-in process and help increase the efficiency of the baggage handling process.

The new fees will apply to all passengers travelling on Wizz Air flights departing after October 27th.

Natasa Kazmer, head of corporate communication and public affairs at the airline, said: "We are pursuing our philosophy of charging the passengers according to their needs and we are using this change to keep our airfares down.

"Passengers who will only travel with carry on luggage will benefit for even lower fares."

Currently, Wizz Air passengers are allowed to take one bag - weighing less than 10kg - onto flights as hand luggage.

Wizz Air operates a number of flights from the UK to various destinations in eastern Europe.

Earlier this month, easyJet also said that it would introduce a fee for all luggage which is checked in on its flights.
