Better food on US flights

US carrier Northwest Airlines has announced that it is going in change the company which provides the catering on its transatlantic services from the UK.

In the future, Gate Gourmet will provide passengers on Northwest Airlines' service between Gatwick and the US.

Gate Gourmet is the world's largest independent provider of airline catering and serves over 200 million airline meals every year. Passengers from the UK can now expect their in-flight meals to feature "innovative menu design and expert execution".

Welcoming the decision, Eric Born, the senior vice president of Gate Gourmet, said: "I am proud and delighted that Northwest, one of the world's biggest airlines, has selected Gate Gourmet as its catering partner at Gatwick.

"This is good news for our business in the UK and further evidence of the company's progress and development. Gate Gourmet is committed to delivering the highest standards of service to our customers and we look forward to working with Northwest Airlines in the years ahead."

Northwest Airlines operates two daily services from the UK to the US, a route to Detroit and one to Minneapolis St Paul's International Airport.
