The fourth annual England's Northwest Tourism Awards were held this week, celebrating the success of various attractions, hotels and services in the region.

Among the winners were the Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, which was named large attraction of the year.

The Manchester Central convention complex took the 'excellence in business tourism' prize, while the London Carriage Works in Liverpool was recognised for providing the best 'taste of England's north-west'.

An accolade was presented to the National Wildflower Centre in Merseyside for its achievements in sustainable tourism, while Keswick Market Place in Cumbria won the public space award.

Felicity Goodey, chair of tourism for England's Northwest, said: "More than 29 million visitors stay with us each year now. Tourism contributes £10 billion to the north-west economy."

She added: "It's businesses like the ones we are honouring tonight who are turning this region into an increasingly desirable visitor destination."

Regional winners will now be entered in the national Enjoy England awards, which will be held in April next year.
