Zoom starts low fare flights to Florida and California

Zoom Airlines is launching low cost flights across the Atlantic from Gatwick to Fort Lauderdale in Florida and San Diego in California from next summer.

Canadian airline Zoom describes itself as "the leading low fare transatlantic airline" and already offers flights from Gatwick to New York and Bermuda. The flights to Fort Lauderdale and San Diego will both operate twice a week, with Fort Lauderdale starting in May and San Diego in June.

Fort Lauderdale is a popular cruise port and already welcomes around 200,000 UK visitors a year. The resort also offers 23 miles of beaches and is known as the Venice of America thanks to its 300 miles of waterways and canals. With prices starting at £399 return including taxes and charges, Fort Lauderdale will offer an alternative to flights to Orlando and Miami for UK visitors to Florida.

San Diego is the seventh largest city in the USA and has been the biggest US city without direct flights from Europe. The city has an idyllic Mediterranean-style climate and has 70 miles of sandy beaches. It is also only two hours drive from Disneyland in Anaheim and half an hour from the Mexican border.

Zoom will be offering flights from Gatwick to San Diego with fares starting from £449 return. "This new route confirms our commitment to offering customers lower airfares across the Atlantic. Direct non-stop flights to San Diego will offer a convenient low fare service from London which allows customers to avoid the need to change planes en route," says Zoom Airlines owner, John Boyle.
