East Midlands Airport today began the operation of new services to Guernsey. The daily flights with Aurigny Air Services are expected to prove popular with British travellers looking to get away to destinations outside those in the eurozone.

Caroline Plant, managing director of East Midlands Airport, said: "We are delighted to have launched our new service to Guernsey, extending our destination portfolio to include another Channel Island.

"With a flight time of just over an hour from East Midlands Airport, the new service is proving popular with our passengers, offering the perfect mix of relaxation and great leisure facilities. The new daily service also means that Guernsey as a destination is more accessible for business passengers from the region."

Malcolm Hart, managing director of Aurigny, was equally positive about the launch of the service: "We believe that flying to Guernsey will prove to be extremely popular as the island has some of the best beaches and restaurants in the whole of the British Isles.

"Guernsey and the nearby islands of Alderney, Sark and Herm are an unusual hybrid of British and French as they nestle just a few miles off the French coast. The flight time will be just over one hour on brand new ATR aircraft and travellers are starting to recognise that you can experience a European-style destination without leaving Britain."

Travellers to the Channel Islands need to be aware that the Channel Islands are now rated as a European destination with regard to medical travel insurance.
