Great Rail Journeys launch first UK cruise
[July 18th 2008] Cruise ship Lord of the Glens

New cruising holidays by rail have been launched by Great Rail Journeys, including a UK cruise to the Scottish Lochs and Islands.

The new nine day Lochs and Islands Cruise begins in Edinburgh and ends in Glasgow. The holiday includes a four night cruise on the MV Lord of the Glens around Loch Long, the Isle of Bute, Kintyre, Loch Fyne and the Isle of Arran. A trip on the Strathspey Steam Railway and a three night stay in Inverness are part of the package too. Price is from £995 per person.

Also in the new Cruising Holidays by Rail brochure is an 11 day Norwegian Coastal Adventure. This takes in a six night cruise on MS Polarlys as it crosses the Arctic Circle and visits towns including Trondheim, Tromso and Honningsvåg, gateway to the North Cape and mainland Europe’s most northerly point. The holiday includes two nights in Oslo and a journey across the ‘roof of Norway’ on the Bergen Railway.

The new 11 day Scandinavian Explorer & Gota Canal holiday gives the opportunity to cruise through two seas, three canals, eight lakes and 66 locks. Highlights include two night stays and sightseeing tours in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Gothenburg.

Other new cruises in the programme include a nine day Three Enchanting Rivers Cruise along three of Germany’s rivers – the Rhine, Moselle and Main – an eight day Seine Cruise, a nine day Rhine Cruise and a seven day Moselle Cruise.

All the holidays, except for long haul ones, begin with rail travel from St Pancras International station. As well as Cruising by Rail holidays, Great Rail Journeys also offers train based tours including The Trans-Siberian Express; the Glacier Express; USA Coast to Coast; India’s Palace on Wheels, The Marrakech Express and The Arctic Circle Express.
