A team of experts from Fifa, the governing body of world football, will inspect the sites involved in South Africa's hosting of the 2010 World Cup and organisers have expressed confidence that the checks will go smoothly.
There will be a huge influx of tourists travelling to the football tournament in under three years' time and concern has been expressed over South Africa's ability to cope with the flow of people.
Matters such as South Africa's transport system have been scrutinised and this week's checks will examine accommodation, stadium construction and other issues.
Despite the doubts that have been raised, organising chief Danny Jordaan said that South Africa is well on its way to being ready for the competition.
"We are sure the inspection team will find a lot of progress has been made since the last tour a year ago, particularly in the areas of stadium construction," Mr Jordaan said in a statement.
"They will see the high quality of programs the host cities have embarked on in transport and airport expansion."
Fifa experts will travel to Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth during their inspections.
