Visitors to Los Angeles this month will be able to enjoy the LA County Fair – the biggest event of its kind in North America.

Some 1.3 million people visit the fair during its 23-day run in September every year, with an average of 80,000 visitors a day.

The old-fashioned event dates back to 1922 and retains its popularity with Los Angeles residents and tourists alike with its mix of rides, exhibitions, competitions and other attractions.

There are a range of tents at the fair, including a home and gardens pavilion featuring elaborate flower displays and exhibits including California Heritage Square, where visitors can take part in a hands-on gold-panning experience.

The fair has also garnered a reputation for staging impressive musical performances, with Huey Lewis and the News, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Beach Boys and the Temptations all having played there in the past.

Situated in the LA district of Pomona, the fair will be open to visitors until September 30th.
