The Tourism Authority of Thailand has predicted that the country will see close to 15 million visitors this year.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is expecting a total of 14.8 million visitors to the Asian nation in 2007.
Tourist arrivals in the final six weeks of the year are set to see a significant boost by 691 charter flights that have been booked from between this month and the end of April, the Nation reports.
However the TAT reportedly said that it was less concerned with numbers than with the type of visitor coming to Thailand.
Governor Phornsiri Manoharn said that efforts are being made to reposition Thailand from a low-price destination and appeal more to high-end tourists.
"We're moving our strategy from general tourists to focus more on quality travellers, because more than 200 countries are promoting tourism, so we have more competitors," Mr Manoharn explained.
The TAT said there were 9.3 million international arrivals in Thailand between January and August this year, 2.5 per cent more than in 2006.
