Low fares airline easyJet is today celebrating its tenth anniversary offering flights from Stansted airport.

On 21st May 1998 the budget airline’s first flight, under the brand name Go, took off from Stansted for the Italian capital of Rome. Go merged with easyJet in August 2002 creating one of the largest low cost airlines in Europe.

Stansted airport is now one of easyJet’s most successful bases, with 14 permanent aircraft and 522 staff. Over the last 10 years the airline has carried more than 39 million passengers from Stansted to 26 European and domestic destinations.

“The way we travel has dramatically changed over the last 10 years. Now, more people than ever before have the opportunity to fly thanks to our affordable fares to key destinations across the UK and Europe. I am proud that easyJet has played such a pivotal role in uniting Europe and enhancing people’s lives as well as generating a huge economic benefit to the local community,” says easyJet UK general manager, David Osborne.

easyJet is also celebrating the launch of new flights from Gatwick to Nantes today. Daily flights to Nantes will cost from £23.99 one way including tax. The city is the sixth largest in France and is located in the Loire region of western France, around 50km from the coast. It is expected to be a popular city break destination and provides a good base for exploring the Loire valley.

“easyJet has seen a huge increase in flights to great short-break destinations this year, reinforcing easyJet’s position as the favourite airline for independent travellers, providing convenient low-cost flights from your local airport,” comments Osborne.
