And Then There Were None - The Gielgud Theatre

Why not try the equally thrilling The Mousetrap, for a story full of suspense and intrigue.

Steven Pimlott's production of the Agatha Christie thriller, And Then There Were None, is a new stage adaptation by Kevin Elyot. The production opened at the Gielgud Theatre on 25th October 2005. More than just a whodunnit, the story is one of the most carefully planned of Christie's mysteries. Christie considered the plot to be almost unfathomable.

And Then There Were None - The Story

Ten strangers, with apparently nothing in common, are invited to an exclusive island mansion. Over dinner, a voice on a gramophone record accuses each guest of hiding a guilty and terrible secret. That evening, one of the party is found murdered and the tension escalates as the survivors realise the killer is not only amongst them, but is preparing to strike again...

Kevin Elyot has drawn exclusively from the original 1939 novel rather than Christie's own 1943 stage version or subsequent screen versions. As part of a major initiative to re-popularise Christie for the 21st century, the production is updated with an eye to satisfying the expectations of younger audiences accustomed to more graphic horror on screen.

The Production at London's Gielgud theatre puts a contemporary twist on Christie's rich and gripping exploration of the nature of justice.. "It was so difficult to do that the idea had fascinated me... I wrote the book after a tremendous amount of planning, and I was pleased with what I had made of it." - Agatha Christie, An Autobiography, 1977
