Ten strangers are invited to an exclusive island mansion. Over dinner, a voice on a gramophone record accuses each guest of hiding a terrible and guilty secret. When one of their party is murdered the tension escalates as the survivors realise the killer is amongst them.

The History of the Gielgud Theatre

The Gielgud theatre was originally known as the Hicks theatre and opened in 1906. Over the years the theatre has adopted a number of titles including the Globe before it became the Gielgud in 1994.

The theatre as it stands today was named after the actor Sir John Gielgud and the building has been home to a number of Alan Ayckbourne premiers.

The Architecture of the Gielgud Theatre

The Gielgud was designed by Walter Emden and CJ Phipps in a Louis XVI style, and originally had seats on four levels. Over the year seats have been removed and a gallery opened.

The Gielgud theatre underwent refurbishment in 1987, with extensive work on the gold leaf in the auditorium. The theatre is particularly notable for its beautiful Regency staircase and is recognisable for its tower.

Facilities at The Gielgud Theatre
The theatre is air conditioned and has three licensed bars. Access for wheelchair users, guide dogs are permitted and an infra red or loop sound amplification system is available for the hard of hearing. Please contact the theatre if you are in need of assistance.
Location of The Gielgud Theatre
The Gielgud theatre is located on Shaftesbury Avenue, on the corner of Rupert Street in London's West End.
