Ryanair launches from Bristol

Ryanair has commenced operations from its base in Bristol.

Low-fares airline Ryanair has opened its base at Bristol airport today, with flights taking off to a number of European destinations.

The carrier offered services for the first time from Bristol to Budapest, Derry, Knock, Milan, Porto, Riga and Wroclaw.

November 8th will see inaugural Ryanair flights from Bristol to Slovakian capital Bratislava, Dinard in France and the Polish cities of Poznan and Rzeszow. Katowice in Poland will see its first service on November 10th.

The operator will begin to carry passengers from Bristol to the skiing destinations of Salzburg and Turin on December 19th and 22nd respectively.

Caroline Baldwin, Ryanair's head of UK sales and marketing, said: "Ryanair's $140 million [£66.5 million] investment in two new Boeing 737-800 aircraft for Bristol will deliver one million passengers, 1,000 jobs and a visitor spend of £250 million.

"From today, tourism and businesses in the south-west will benefit from improved access and Ryanair's guaranteed lowest fares on 19 routes between Bristol and Europe."

Bristol is a major regional hub in the south-west and offers a number of airport parking options and hotel facilities.
