Virgin Atlantic and BA are favourite British airlines

The annual travel trends survey by online travel community TripAdvisor reveals that British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Dubai based airline Emirates are the favourite airlines of British travellers.
More than 8,000 travellers worldwide including over 450 British travellers took part in TripAdvisor’s travel trends survey. Overall the favourite airlines were Singapore Airlines, Air France and BA. But least favourite airline among British travellers was low cost airline Ryanair.
When it comes to airports, the favourite airports for British respondents were Manchester airport, Singapore Changi International and Amsterdam Schiphol airport. Least favourite airport for Brits was Heathrow, followed by Gatwick.
Asked what makes an airport great, not surprisingly 77% answered fast and efficient airport security. Perhaps more surprisingly, the next most popular answer was airport toilets.
Once onboard their flight, British travellers expressed a fondness for peace. No less than 46% said they would actually pay extra to sit in a quiet section of a plane, compared to 40% of worldwide respondents. And 77% of Brits said they thought families travelling with young children should sit in their own section of the aircraft.
With the recent trend for airlines to introduce mobile phone services on flights, British travellers have some advice – don’t! Ninety percent of British respondents think mobile phones should be banned on flights, compared to 81% of worldwide respondents.
Despite the global economic crisis Brits also seem determined to continue to spend money on holidays. In the survey, 56% said they plan to spend more on leisure travel in the next 12 months than they have in the past year. And 69% said unfavourable exchange rates against the euro will not limit their travel to Europe in the coming year.
The TripAdvisor travel trends survey also revealed its emerging hotspots for 2009. The next holiday hotspot is predicted to be Budoni in Sardinia. Also making the top 10 are Agia Galini in Crete, Petra in Jordan, Ardmore in Ireland, Protaras in Cyprus, and Torre del Mar in Spain.
