Crossrail promises fast rail link to Heathrow

Imagine being able to travel from Canary Wharf in east London to Heathrow airport in just 43 minutes. A pipedream at the moment, but by 2017 a reality thanks to the recent go-ahead given by the government to the Crossrail project.

Construction of the Crossrail link from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west through central points including Liverpool Street and Bond Street to Shenfield in Essex is expected to start in 2010 and will be the largest civil engineering project in Europe.

Following the recent announcement about Heathrow Connect, which will link the airport with Paddington Station in just 25 minutes, Crossrail is very good news for passengers travelling to the airport by rail. But many Londoners as well as visitors are set to benefit.

According to Mayor of London Ken Livingstone, Crossrail "will touch the lives of millions of Londoners whether they are travelling to work, going to the West End to shop or for the evening out, travelling to Heathrow or living in East London".

Whether you're planning a theatre break in London or a flight from Heathrow, Crossrail is set to have a positive effect on your travelling experience in London.
