A380 flights to start from Heathrow

Flights from Heathrow on the Airbus A380 superjumbo, the world’s largest commercial airliner, will start next Wednesday 19 March.
Singapore Airlines has taken delivery of its third double decker A380 and is still the only airline in the world to be operating the new plane. Daily services between Singapore and Heathrow will begin on the evening of Tuesday 18 March when flight SQ322 flies from Singapore to London, with the return leg from Heathrow departing on 19 March.
SIA has configured its new A380 passenger jets with 471 seats on two decks. There are 12 ultra-luxurious Singapore Airlines Suites – described as above First Class – 60 in Business Class configured in a 1-2-1 layout on the top deck, and 399 in Economy Class.
Singapore Airlines has also announced it will begin flights on the A380 between Singapore and Tokyo on 20 May to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Narita airport in Tokyo.
“We are proud to operate the inaugural A380 flight into Japan, the A380’s first Asian destination. The fact that Tokyo is the A380’s first Asian city highlights Singapore Airlines’ 40 years of dedicated service to the Japanese market,” says Singapore Airlines’ Executive Vice President, Marketing and the Regions, Huang Cheng Eng.
SIA believes the A380 superjumbo heralds a new era in air travel. “The aircraft is the quietest large passenger aircraft ever built, and delivers substantial fuel burn reductions per seat kilometre over the next largest aircraft. This means it becomes a cleaner, greener alternative for long-haul travel, while allowing for the addition of extra capacity to congested airports, like London,” the airline writes in a press statement.
As well as having three A380s in service, Singapore Airlines has a further A380s on firm order and an option on six more. Dubai based Emirates Airline will become the second airline to start services using the A380 when it takes delivery of its first plane in August.
