Cuba Travel Insurance

Since travel insurance is mandatory to enter Cuba, it's definitely not worth forgetting to purchase a travel insurance policy. After you land, tourists can sometimes be asked to present their insurance documents so it's best to make sure you've got everything in order.

Holiday Extras' travel insurance provides cover for cancellations, lost baggage and medical emergencies. Get dependable travel insurance to cover you for your Havana nights

Practical travel information

Passports - It sounds like a no-brainer, but we'll say it anyway. You must have your passport with you to travel to Cuba, with six months on it to ensure validity.

Visas - As a holidaymaker, you'll need to get a tourist card before you travel. This is really easy to apply for from the UK.

Travel money - Cuba technically has two currencies: the Cuban Pesos (CUP) for locals, and the Cuban Convertible Pesos (CUC) for tourists. These can only be bought and sold once you're in the country. There's no fee for exchanging British pounds or euros for the peso.

Things to see and do on your Cuban holiday

  • Experience the romance, nightlife, jazz - and maybe even a traditional cigar - in the metropolitan Cuban capital Havana.
  • Soak up some history in Santa Clara. It's the site of Che Guevara's most successful battle during the Revolution.
  • Plunge into the coral reef from any of the 30 dive sites in Varadero. There are also reefs around Isla de la Juventud, which was the inspiration for Treasure Island.
  • Take out some additional insurance to cover you on a hiking trip. Cuba's highest peak is Pico Turquino at 1,972 metres.
  • Visit the historical city of Trinidad. Founded in 1514, the area is now a UNESCO World Heritage site - and a place where you'll still see cobbled streets and 18th-century architecture.
