Coronavirus, USA and Travel Insurance

In response to the coronavirus outbreak, the American government has implemented measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the USA. There are currently many confirmed cases of coronavirus in America.

For travellers entering America, expect to find health screening tests at airports and cruise ports. The USA government has also issued the following measures;

  • Foriegn nationals who have visited China within the last 14 days will not be permitted entry into the USA.
  • Foreign nationals who visited Iran within the last 14 days will not be permitted entry into the USA.
  • Up-to-date information is available at the US Centre for Deseise Control (CDC) website.

American Samoa

  • Authorities in American Samoa require all foreign nationals to spend at least 14 days in Hawaii, Samoa (Apia) or Tonga before entering. Other travel restrictions for the area may also apply, check with your tour operator or flight carrier for further details.

What is Coronavirus?

Also known as COVID-19, the coronavirus is a flu-like respiratory condition which originated in Wuhan City, China. Symptoms include fever, coughing, sneezing, achy pains and shortness of breath. The World Health Organisation is an official source of information regarding the coronavirus outbreak and includes advice for travellers, hygiene tips and updates on the state of COVID-19.

How To Protect Yourself from Coronavirus

There is currently no cure for coronavirus, but there are simple hygiene measures that you can take to protect yourself;

  • Using hot, soapy water, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds frequently throughout the day.
  • If you have been out in public, use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing and dispose of used tissues immediately.
  • Avoid contact with anyone showing symptoms of coronavirus.
  • If you feel unwell with symptoms consistent with COVID-19, seek medical advice straight away.
  • Keep yourself updated with advice from official sources.
