Coronavirus, Portugal and Travel Insurance
Following the outbreak of coronavirus, Portuguese authorities have issued advice for travellers entering the country, to try and contain the spread of the virus. Additional screenings are taking place at land borders, seaports and airports. Further information about how COVID-19 is affecting travel in Portugal, where there is currently 30 confirmed cases of coronavirus, can be found on the Portuguese Health Authority website.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is a reliable and official resource for travellers, with up-to-date advice and information about what can be expected when entering Portugal.
Will Coronavirus Affect my Portugal Travel Insurance?
We have created a coronavirus guidance page, which is updated regularly. It answers many frequently asked questions relating to our Portugal travel insurance and how the spread of coronavirus could affect your policy.
What is Coronavirus?
Coronavirus, or COVID-19, is a respiratory condition which presents with symptoms similar to flu. Symptoms include fever, coughing, sneezing, achy pains and, in some cases, difficulty breathing. The World Health Organisation is a helpful source of up-to-date information regarding the spread of COVID-19, as well as offering travel advice and hygiene tips.
How To Protect Yourself from Coronavirus
Minimise your risk of contracting COVID-19 by following these simple hygiene steps;
- Thoroughly wash your hands throughout the day, for at least 20 seconds using soap and water.
- Use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser when you have been in public - particularly if you have been on public transport.
- Catch coughs and sneezes in a tissue and dispose of the tissue straight away.
- If someone that you know is or has been unwell with symptoms consistent with coronavirus, avoid close contact.
- Seek medical advice straight away if you display symptoms of COVID-19.
- Stay up-to-date with information about the outbreak from official government sources.
