Flight instead of rain-hit rail?

As torrential rain earlier in the week continues to cause havoc in much of northern England, Jet2 has said that it could help people needing to travel to the south.

Heavy rain earlier this week left rail services in places like Yorkshire severely disrupted and, with more rain forecast over the weekend, people may have despaired of being able to travel to southern England for sometime.

Now, however, low-cost airline Jet.com has reminded passengers that it offers three daily flights from Newcastle to London.

A statement from the company said: "As the rain causes havoc with our national rail service, disruptions have left a number of the travelling public stranded at the wrong end of the UK!"

The airline said that tickets on the flights currently cost just £21.99 one-way including charges and the trip takes only one hour.

Elsewhere, Jet2 revealed that the new Miss Northern Ireland is a cabin crew member for the airline.

Melissa Patton, 19, started working for the airline in 2006 and has "been wowing our customers ever since".
