UK top for Bank Holiday breaks

Flybe reveals most popular flights

Low fares airline Flybe says that short breaks in the UK are most popular with travellers as it gears up for a busy Bank Holiday weekend.

Flybe, which claims to be Europe’s largest low cost regional airline, reports that passenger numbers are up 19.5% compared to the 2007 holiday period.

The most popular Flybe flight this May Bank Holiday is the Belfast City airport to Manchester airport route. This is followed by three flights to Gatwick airport – from Jersey, Guernsey and Belfast City.

Flights to Southampton airport are also popular – with routes from Edinburgh airport, Jersey, and Glasgow airport all in the top 10. Inverness to Gatwick airport is the sixth most popular route, while Belfast City to Birmingham airport comes in at number seven, and Birmingham to Edinburgh airport at number nine.

Flybe says that Birmingham, Edinburgh and Southampton are “proving hugely popular for the variety of culture and history attractions they can offer”. It also reports that Gatwick features prominently because of its proximity to the attractions of the south coast and because it is convenient for connecting flights.

“When you also take into consideration the added value of avoiding frustrating, time-consuming and environmentally damaging motorway queues – not to mention the economic benefit from savings made on the ever increasing cost of petrol and diesel – choosing to travel with Flybe’s efficient and friendly service makes even more sense than usual,” comments Flybe chief commercial officer, Mike Rutter.

Flybe reports it has a limited number of seats still available for anyone wanting to get away this Bank Holiday weekend.
