Anyone looking for a more exotic place to do their New Year sales shopping might like to consider a shopping break to Dubai for the Dubai Shopping Festival.

Now an established event on the international calendar, the Dubai Shopping Festival start on January 15th and is a month-long shopping, entertainment and cultural extravaganza.

And for the first time at this year’s shopping festival, UK residents will be able to take advantage of the new duty free rules introduced on December 1st 2008.

UK residents travelling from outside the European Union are now able to bring back double the amount of duty free goods, such as electrical products and souvenirs, following the first changes to customs allowances in 15 years.

For the ultimate shopping break there are a wealth of shopping opportunities at the Dubai Shopping Festival. These range from the traditional souks with their colourful array of spices, jewellery and textiles to the ultra-modern shopping malls with their mouth-watering selection of luxury goods and high fashion.

At last year’s Dubai Shopping Festival more than five million people visited the Mall of the Emirates and Deira City Centre, two of the largest shopping malls in Dubai. Not only were they attracted by the world-class shopping but also the entertainment on offer.

At the Mall of the Emirates there was a host of entertainment to keep the shoppers happy, including Europe’s leading dance production troupe Extravadansa, and Bollywood music group Bollywood Dreams. Over at Deira City Centre, shoppers could take part in the Race Track Challenge and had the opportunity to win limited edition Corvettes.

Visitors to Dubai are spoilt for choice when it comes to hotels. Rotana offers a choice of 10 hotels in Dubai, including the 5 star Al Murooj Rotana Dubai which is ideally located close to the city’s newest and largest shopping centre, Dubai Mall.

Kuoni is offering five nights at the Towers Rotana hotel on Sheikh Zayed road on a bed and breakfast basis in a classic room including flights with British Airways from Heathrow and airport transfers in Dubai with prices starting from £764 per person based on two sharing.
