Four new airport hotels will be built, including one at Stansted

Acclaimed hotelier Surinder Arora has secured a £125 million joint venture with Whitbread to construct four new airport hotels that will create 1,570 rooms at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports.

The deal, which is subject to planning permission, will be for Whitbread's budget hotel brand, Premier Inn, and sees Whitbread become the UK's largest operator of airport hotels.

Estimated to open in autumn 2011, the new properties will bring 400 rooms to Heathrow Terminal 5; 240 rooms to Heathrow Terminal 4; 300 rooms at Stansted; and 630 rooms at Gatwick's North Terminal.

Mark Anderson, commercial and property director at Whitbread, said: "As air travel returns to long-term growth, we see opportunities to build our presence at airports. The success of the budget airlines has shown that there is an increasing demand for low-cost travel and that includes accommodation.
