Baggage allowances

Knowing how much luggage you can take can be complicated. To help you out we've put together a handy list of the top airlines flying out of the UK, with links to their website so you can check their up-to-date baggage information.

Remember, this information can change so always check on the airline and airport websites before you start packing.

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus has a range of different baggage options depending on how much you need to take. All of their fares except for 'Saver' include a checked bag of 20kg maximum per person.

Air France

Hold luggage allowances for Air France vary depending on your cabin class. For all classes aside for the Economy cabin Light fare you get at least 1 checked item weighing up to 23 kg.

American Airlines

Hold luggage allowances for American Airlines vary depending on your cabin class as well as the route your flight is taking. Usually the maximum is 23kg or 32kg.

British Airways

British Airways passengers have a range of baggage options depending on the cabin class and destination. For all fares apart from Basic tickets you can take one standard-sized bag up to 23kg per person as a minimum.

easyJet

easyJet passengers can take one small cabin bag on board (maximum size 45 x 36 x 20cm, including any handles or wheels) which must fit under the seat in front of you. If you've booked an 'Up front' or 'Extra legroom' seat you can also bring a large cabin bag on board. You'll need to pay extra for any hold luggage.

Emirates

With Emirates your luggage allowance is based on the cabin class you're flying in. The maximum limit for one bag is 32kg so if your allowance is more than this you can take another bag.

Jet2

Jet2 passengers get one free item of hand luggage up to 10kg and one small personal item like a handbag or laptop bag. Hold luggage (up to 22kg per bag) costs extra.

Lufthansa

Lufthansa's hold baggage allowance ranges from 20-40kg or number of bags depending on destination and class of travel. Add your details to their handy calculator and it'll tell you what you can take.

Olympic Airlines

You can take one item of baggage with a maximum weight of 8kg as free cabin baggage. The free hold baggage allowance ranges from 15kg to 32kg depending on route and class of travel.

Qantas

Qantas has a slightly complicated baggage allowance system based on class of travel and route. Check your flight confirmation for baggage allowances.

Ryanair

Every passenger flying with Ryanair can take one small personal bag like a handbag or laptop bag on board for free. Anything going in the hold costs extra - you can either get up to 10kg or up to 20kg.

Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines has a slightly complicated baggage allowance system based on class of travel and route. Check your flight confirmation for baggage allowances.

TUI

TUI has a free hand luggage allowance of up to 10kg. If you add baggage when you book your holiday you usually get the option to choose up to 20kg or 25kg.

Virgin

On most routes you can check in at least one bag up to 23kg for free unless you're flying Economy Light. All passengers can take a small cabin bag as well as a coat or handbag.

WestJet

With WestJet you can check in 2 bags up to 23kg - fees depend on your class of travel. All passengers can take one free piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item.
