Jersey Boys shows how the Four Seasons changed the face of music forever with their catchy tunes and memorable lyrics. You'll find yourself tapping your feet and singing along to all their classic songs at the Prince Edward Theatre from March 2008.

The Building Design of the Prince Edward Theatre

The theatre was designed by Edward A. Stone to accommodate large, extravagan musical shows and occasional film shows. The formal italianate style of the Prince Edward Theatre's exterior conceals a welcoming and colourful interior.
The Deco interior was designed by Marc-Henri Levy and Gaston Laverdet. Entering through arched doorways the audience find a spectacular circular foyer with staircases leading off to the stalls and dress circle.
The beautiful proscenium arch features a series of alcoves with amber glass covers and imitation fountains on each side designed by René Lalique.

The History of the Prince Edward Theatre

The Prince Edward Theatre was built in 1930 with a capacity of more than sixteen hundred.
The theatre opened with a musical comedy, Rio Rita. It was not a success with London audiences and closed after only 59 performances. The Theatre initially proved to be a bit of a white elephant and after a string of largely unsuccessful shows, it closed and was dark for a period.
In 1936 a syndicate was formed and the Prince Edward Theatre was transformed in to a sumptuous cabaret restaurant. Large kitchens were fitted below stage, a semi-circular revolve was installed for dancing and staircases linked the dress circle and stalls. The Prince Edward theatre re-opened as the London Casino.
During the second World War the Casino was taken over by the Queensbury All Services Club. It became a great morale boosting venue for the forces at home and overseas. Broadcasts were made of performances, recording shows like Variety Band Box. Leading artists who appeared included Vera Lynn, Jack Warner, Max Wall, Glenn Miller and Bing Crosby.
In 1954 The Prince Edward Theatre was altered. The auditorium was converted to house a large pioneering wide-screen Cinerama. The theatre became known as the Casino Cinema.
In 1978 The Prince Edward Theatre resumed it's original purpose. With a production of the smash hit musical Evita- The first of a new generation of musicals written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice and starring Elaine Paige.
In 1992 - 1993 the Prince Edward Theatre was refurbished by Bernard Delfont and Cameron Mackintosh reopening with the Broadway revival of the Gershwin musical Crazy For You.
