Lesley Garrett, CBE, is Britain's best loved soprano. The popular British singer has experienced a diverse and fascinating career consisting of film, television, opera, musicals, radio broadcasting and solo musical recordings.

Life Time Achievements

Lesley Garrett began her career by pursuing her love for opera. Her early operatic engagements included performances for The Wexford Festival, The Welsh National Opera, Opera North and The Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Lesley then joined the English National Opera in 1984. During her time with the English National Opera Lesley won critical acclaim for her portrayal of both serious and more comical roles. Lelsey Garrett is now a member of the English National Opera's board of directors.

Lesley has performed all over the world in a wide range of musical events. Lesley Garrett has performed throughout Great Britain and Europe as well as in the USA, Russia, Japan, Brazil, Malaysia and Australia. In 2005 she took part in a successful tour of Australia with Anthony Warlow.

As a recording artisit, Lesley Garrett, has found huge success with her eleven solo CDs. These CDs have earnt Lesley a loyal and affectionate fan base as well as critical acclaim. Her most recent CDs are 'Travelling Light,' 'So Deep is the Night' and 'The Singer.' Lesley Garrett has also presented regular radio programmes for Classic FM.

Lesley Garrett's television credits are diverse and demonstrate the numerous talents of the British diva. Her major television performances have included 'Lesley Garrett...Tonight' and 'The Lesley Garrett Show' for the BBC. Lesley appeared in the BBC documentary 'Jobs for the Girls' with Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson. Lesley Garrett performed a Christmas concert for the BBC entitled 'The Singer' alongside Jose Cura and other guest artists. Music from Lesley's album 'So Deep is the Night' was made into a film entitled 'Lesly Garrett - Desert Dreams.'

Lesley also participated in the BBC series, 'Who Do You Think You Are' and reached the semi-finals of 'Strictly Come Dancing' in 2004. She has made numerous appearances on the ITV chat show, 'Loose Women.' In 2005 Lesley Garrett hosted and performed at The Classical Brit Awards.

Lesley's work has won her numerous awards including:

  • 6 Silver Discs
  • 2 Gold Discs
  • A Gramophone Award for Best Selling Classical Artist of the Year
  • In 2002 Lesley Garrett was awarded a CBE foe her services to music

Recent Projects

In Autumn 2006 Lesley Garrett joined the cast of The Sound of Music. This latest Andrew Lloyd Webber production recieved a huge amount of public attention after the success of BBC talent search 'How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?' This popular television show was the first time that a lead role in a West End musical had been cast by the British public in this way. At the end of the series the public voted for Connie Fisher to play Maria Von Trapp in The Sound of Music.

Lesley Garrett will be playing the role of the Mother Abbess in the Sound of Music at The London Palladium from Autumn 2006 until April 2007.
