Biography for Don Johnson

Born 15/12/1949 in Flatt Creek, Missouri, USA

Don Johnson is an American actor most famous for his role in the iconic 80s television series, Miami Vice. Don Johnson's long career in Hollywood has included films, television and stage acting.

Don Johnson began acting and singing at his high school in Kansas. He then studied at The University of Kansas for two years before moving to San Fransisco where he joined the American Conservatory Theatre. Don Johnson landed his first professional stage role just 2 weeks after arriving in San Fransisco in musical, 'Your Own Thing.'

Don Johnson moved to Los Angeles in the early 1970s where he performed in his first major stage role, 'Fortune in Men's Eyes.' Don prospered socially within the LA party scene but did not achieve success professionally. He worked very hard as a stage actor for almost 15 years before he achieved any real recognition.

Johnson had attempted to work in television and had made 6 failed pilots for NBC before he got his big break as Sonny Crocket in the trendy drama about cops in Florida, 'Miami Vice.' This role brought Don Johnson fame and established him as an icon for many years to come. Johnson was seen as a style icon and set several fashion trends for men in the 80s.

After the success of Miami Vice, Don Johnson attempted to break into movies. He released a number of films during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Despite excellent performances in all these films, the box office figures were constantly disappointing. In 1996, Johnson found movie success as a supporting actor in 'Tin Cup.' Starring alongside Kevin Costner and Cheech Marin, Don Johnson proved to critics that he had a bright future ahead of him as a supporting actor.

Don Johnson has also found success as a director and executive producer. Johnson directed a number of episodes of his hit TV show, Miami Vice. He also worked as an executive producer on thriller 'In the Company of Darkness' and 'The Marshall.'
