St Paul's Cathedral

St Pauls Cathedral

Experience the majesty and awe-inspring beauty of St Paul's Cathedral from it's magnificent mosaic-covered dome to the Crypt containing Nelson, Wellington and Sir Christopher Wren's tombs. Add on a visit to St Paul's to your London theatre break for just £9.50 per person.

St Paul's is an amazing place to explore, here are just a few of the many features you can see on your visit:

The Dome

The Dome at St Paul's is one of the largest in the world, at 111.3 metres high. Between the arches of the inner dome are mosaics of prophets and saints, which were added in the mid-19th century due to Queen Victoria's complaint that the interior was 'most dreary, dingy and undevotional'. The murals in the dome were created between 1715 and 1719 and together with the mosaics, they create a majestic spectacle.

The Whispering Gallery

St Paul's Whispering Gallery runs round the interior of the Dome and is 259 steps up from ground level. It's a charming feature - whisper against its walls and your voice will be audible on the opposite site.

The Crypt

The Crypt contains the tombs of Admiral Nelson, the Duke of Wellington and Sir Christopher Wren, among many other historical figures including the sculptor Henry Moore and Sir Arthur Sullivan (of Gilbert and Sullivan). Sir Christopher Wren is a particularly important figure for St Pauls, as was he the architect who re-designed the cathedral after the Great Fire of London in 1666.

St Pauls Cathedral

The Crypt is also the home to the OBE Chapel. It was dedicated to the Order of the British Empire in 1960 and the glass panels feature the present monarch, scenes from the Commonwealth, commerce and royal founders of the Order. Members of the Royal Family are represented by banners hanging from the ceilings.

There have been four cathedrals built on the site of site of St Paul's since 604 AD and it has seen many important historical events from the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill to the recent Thanksgiving for the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen. For your chance to soak up some history and marvel at the superb artefacts and architecture to be found at St. Paul's, add a visit on to your London theatre break today.

Opening Times

The Cathedral is open to visitors from Monday to Saturday between 8.30 - 16.00 (last admission).

Directions to St Paul's

St Paul's is the nearest underground station on the Central Line (within Zone 1) which is a five minute walk from the Cathedral. Mansion House, Cannon Street and Blackfriars stations on the District and Circle Lines are a slightly longer walk. Central line trains run every four minutes on weekdays and every six minutes at weekends.
