Edinburgh to throw six-week party

The city of Edinburgh will host a six-week winter festival this year from November 22nd to New Year's Eve.

Edinburgh will be hosting a six-week winter festival this year, kicking off on November 22nd and culminating with a traditional Scottish Hogmanay party on December 31st.

A number of attractions and entertainments have been organised for the festival, including street parades, fireworks shows and luxury markets.

The festivities will get underway on November 22nd with Light Night, when Edinburgh's Norwegian Christmas tree is illuminated in Princes Street Gardens and the city's festive lights are switched on.

In addition to the traditional German market stalls - selling mulled wine, delicacies and traditional gifts - there will be a Scottish market this year offering local produce, handicrafts and Christmas present ideas.

Scotland is famous for its new year celebrations and the Edinburgh Winter Festival will mark the end of December with a four-day extravaganza, which will include a torchlight procession, a candlelit concert in St Giles Cathedral, street parties and a concert in Princes Street Gardens.

Visitors who are feeling unusually courageous on New Year's Day will have the opportunity to take part in the Loony Dook, when hundreds of people gather to jump into the freezing waters of the Firth of Forth.

Airport Lounges - Escape the hustle and bustle of the Airport Terminal and relax in first class comfort for up to three hours before your flight.
