While Manchester is maybe not the first place that springs to mind when people think of cutting-edge fashion, the organisers of a new event are hoping to change this perception and encourage tourists to visit the north-western city.

Taking place between October 4th and 7th, the inaugural Manchester Fashion Weekend hopes to attract both industry insiders and interested tourists to the proceedings.

Taking to the catwalk over the three-day event will be models sporting the latest pieces from some of the hottest new designers, including Juicy Couture and Ben de Lisi.

What's more, a host of celebs are expected to attend the event. Indeed, former model and Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox will be opening the event.

The organisers have stated: "If you're looking for cutting-edge looks from the hottest designers at reduced prices, unforgettable style and beauty advice direct from the experts, make sure you don't miss Fashion Weekend Manchester."

People who opt to visit Manchester for the event will also be able to enjoy this fascinating city's other leading attractions.

This is what the Lonely Planet has to say about the place: "Manchester is looking up … over the last 15 years the city has developed a champagne-for-breakfast insouciance and an almost giddy attitude toward fun.

"'Madchester' is more than just froth-at-the-mouth football and high-class party jinks - there's also museums, fine dining and excellent shopping."
