Continuing the recent success of casting West End leads with reality television shows, the West End musical Spamalot is to cast the part of the Lady Of The Lake through a new reality show on Swedish television.
TV3 in Sweden will broadcast West End Story later this year. The nine-part series was devised by Anna Carrfors Bråkenhielm who produced and developed the reality programme Survivor. Open auditions will be held in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo and a panel of judges will then draw a shortlist of 12 hopefuls who will go on to be voted off on weekly live shows until there are four left. The final four contestants will then be flown to London where they will begin rehearsals the role of the Lady Of The Lake. One contestant will return to Sweden each week to face the judges and voting public. A winner will be chosen in the series finale in February 2008.
London's West End plays host to approximately 700,000 musical theatre-loving visitors from Sweden every year. It is hoped that West End Dream will "reflect the undeniable appeal of the West End as a global brand."
The Lady of The Lake is currently being played by Hannah Waddingham. Waddingham has been playing the role since the Monty Python musical opened at the Palace Theatre in October 2006 and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for her performance.
A comedic masterpiece that's proved a huge success with West End audiences, Spamalot is a must see for all fans of Python's irreverent sense of humour. For your tickets and a theatre break you won't forget, make it easy going - make it Holiday Extras.
