The BBC talent search How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? proved a huge hit with viewers and critics with an array of awards and has now won another - an International Emmy.

As previously announced (further details) the BBC talent search was shortlisted in the Best Non-Scripted Entertainment category and faced competition from programmes made in Spain and Argentina.

How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? was one of seven winners (from eight nominees) from this side of the Atlantic as British programmes and talent scored highly in the awards held in New York to recognise excellence in television across the globe. Jim Broadbent picked up the award for Best Actor for his performance in The Street which also received the award for Best Drama Series. More4's Death of a President won Best TV Movie or Mini-Series, Little Britain picked up an award in the comedy category with Stephen Fry's The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive winning Best Documentary and Simon Shama's Power of Art taking home the award for Best Arts Programming.

Connie Fisher, winner of How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria is currently starring as Maria in six of the eight weekly performances of The Sound of Music with Aoife Mulholland who also competed in the show.
