Maria heads to the Emmys

A huge hit with viewers and critics alike, the television talent search How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria picked up many awards and has now been shortlisted for this year's International Emmy Awards.

How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria is nominated in the non-scripted entertainment category and will be battling stiff competition from programmes made in Spain and Argentina.

The BBC talent search is one of eight UK nominees. Jim Broadbent has been nominated for best actor for his performance in The Street, a series which itself is nominated for best drama. Victoria Wood is nominated for best actress for her performance in Housewife, 49. More4's Death of a President is nominated in the best TV movie category while Simon Schama's programme on Berinini from the BBC2 series Power of Art and Stephen Fry's The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive also received nominations. Little Britain is amongst the nominees in the comedy category.

Connie Fisher, winner of How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria is currently starring as Maria in six of the eight weekly performances of The Sound of Music with Aoife Mulholland who also competed in the show.
