Chess the concert is back with Menzel and Groban taking the lead

Chess documents the story of a love triangle set against the backdrop of an international chess tournament during the cold war. Chess has been streamlined by director Hugh Woodbridge and contains lyrics from Tim Rice and music from Abbas's Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson.

Chess was originally a concept album, released in 1984 before it received its West End debut in 1986. The musical ran for 3 successful years at the Prince Edward. Memorable numbers from the score include One night in Bangkok and I Know Him so Well which reached the top spot in the UK charts when released by Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson.

Idina Menzel is set to take the lead role in the latest production of Chess, which will be shown on May 12th and 13th at the Royal Albert Hall. The Tony Award Winner was last seen on stage as the misunderstood witch, Elphaba in the hugely successful Wicked.

Playing alongside Menzel is Josh Groban, a record breaking American baritone whose recent Christmas themed album, Noel was the top selling album in the US in the whole of 2007. Accompanying these two huge stars will be a 50 piece orchestra (The City of London Philharmonic), a 100 strong choir (The West End Chorus) and the largest pipe organ in Europe. Further casting is yet to be announced.

With Chess only showing for 2 days in May, we suggest you book your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
