Austrian Airlines will be an 'unofficial fan line' for Euro 2008, with a number of initiatives and responsibilities related to the promotion and management of the tournament.

The carrier will partner the city of Vienna for the tournament, which runs from June 7th to 29th, and take responsibility for some 200 square metres of the 'fan mile' in the capital city's Rathausplatz area.

Vienna's deputy mayor Grete Laska explained that the Rathausplatz site will provide a range of attractions, include showings of live matches on 12 large screens, grandstands to accommodate fans and other facilities offering food and entertainment.

As well as taking responsibility for a section of the Rathausplatz, Austrian will also create a special design for one of its medium-haul jets.

Alfred Otsch, chief executive of the airline, said: "Just as a passion for football brings people together, Austrian Airlines connects people from the most diverse countries and continents.

"As an 'unofficial fan line', we shall be carrying enthusiastic fans from all competitor countries safely and comfortably to the European Championship sites."

Euro 2008 matches will be held at a number of locations across Austria and Switzerland, including Vienna, Salzburg, Basel, Zurich and Geneva.
