Ryanair carries 25m Spanish passengers

Ryanair has announced that it has carried 25 million passengers to and from Spain.

Low-fares airline Ryanair has announced that it has carried 25 million passengers on its Spanish routes since it began flights from the country in 2002.

The first Spanish route launched by the carrier was a service from Barcelona to Frankfurt in December 2002.

This network has steadily expanded to the point where Ryanair now expects to carry 11 million passengers next year.

Some 174 routes will be used by these customers from 18 Spanish airports.

Michael Leary, Ryanair CEO, said: "A big thank you to the 25 million passengers who have made our Spanish flights such a success.

"In less than five years we have brought Europe's lowest fares to 18 airports, covering every region of Spain."

Mr O'Leary went on to explain that Catalonia has seen most of the growth, with almost 13 million passengers having travelled through the Girona and Reus airports.
