New Cape Verde airport opened
Access to the Cape Verde archipelago has been boosted with the opening of a new international airport on the island of Boavista.
A new international airport has been opened on Boavista in the Cape Verde island group, improving the region's accessibility for travellers.
This is the third international hub in Cape Verde, with other airports on the islands of Sal and Santiago.
At the unveiling of the new base, prime minister Jose Maria Neves also announced plans for another international airport on Sao Vicente next year, Macauhub reports.
He described the opening of the new hub as "the realisation of a dream for the people of Boavista and for all Cape Verdeans".
Some 220 million will reportedly be invested in Boavista over the coming years in improvements that will provide substantial benefits to the tourism industry, including a new road covering the whole island and a 2,000-room hotel.
Boavista is Cape Verde's third largest island and one of its most promising in tourism terms, as it is home to the longest beaches in the archipelago.
