Ho Chi Minh welcomes over 2m
Over two million people have visited Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam this year, according to new figures.
Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam saw 2.1 million visitors in the first ten months of the year, according to new figures.
Statistics from the country's municipal tourism department show that there was a 15 per cent year-on-year increase in tourist numbers between January and October this year.
October alone saw some 240,000 travellers visit Ho Chi Minh City, the Mathaba news agency reports.
Speaking at a seminar in the city on October 31st, Dr Pham Huu My of the Institute of Social Studies said that the region's cultural and historical heritage offers an opportunity to enhance the travel industry further.
Dr My said that the artefacts of Vietnam's history can act as a valuable resource to attract increasing numbers of tourists to the country in coming years.
Ho Chi Minh is the largest city in Vietnam and is often referred to as Saigon, which was its name before 1975.
