Haryana targets tourism growth
The Indian state of Haryana has announced its intentions to become one of the country's most popular tourist regions.
Haryana in northern India has set its sights on becoming one of the country's foremost tourist destinations.
Representatives from the region will hold a press conference at the World Travel Market (WTM) on November 13th outlining their plans for growth.
Haryana has a number of niche markets which it plans to develop, including golf tourism, farmhouse holidays and cultural travel.
Speaking at the WTM, Haryana tourism minister Kiran Choudhry said that tourism infrastructure in the region has been going through a period of rapid development following the Indian government's decision to reduce bureaucracy two years ago.
She added: "Haryana has also been pioneering the concept of highway tourism, which has seen beautiful tourist complexes being constructed close to some of the major roads passing through the state.
"Each resort includes hotels, motels, bars, fast food centres, health clubs and conference halls."
Haryana stretches from the outskirts of Delhi to the borders of four other states, including Punjab and Rajasthan, and is just six kilometres from Indira Gandhi international airport.
