Growth predicted for southern Africa
Recent infrastructure improvements could lead to growth in southern African tourism industries, according to reports.
Progress in travel infrastructure in southern African countries has been predicted to lead to a boom in tourism.
Recent developments include the opening of the Mata-Mata and Sendelingsdrift tourism posts connecting Namibia and South Africa, which are expected to lead to a boost for desert tourism in particular.
A traditional pontoon at Sendelingsdrift across the Orange River was opened by Namibian minister of environment and tourism Willem Konjore.
Beyond the river, visitors to Namibia will be able to visit the Namib Desert and the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world.
The Sendelingsdrift and Mata-Mata posts also connect the Ai-Ais national park in Namibia with the Richtersveld park in South Africa.
Mr Konjore said: "With the opening of the pontoon, it is no longer necessary to exit the park as it is now possible to travel across the border within the transfrontier park between South Africa and Namibia, to experience the wonders of this magnificent area."
