France 'top destination for skiers'
France is the top European destination for skiers, according to the Association of British Travel Agents.
Europe is the top international region for skiing and France is the most popular winter sports location within the continent, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).
Frances Tuke, PR manager for the association, said that France is followed closely by Austria as the top spot for skiing in Europe.
"Austria used to be the favourite destination but that has changed now," she explained.
"Some time ago, after the French started to build up their resorts, France took over because of the convenience and the sheer scale of the resorts."
Ms Tuke said that Christmas, new year and the February half-term are the most popular times for skiers to go on holiday.
The Abta spokesperson also advised anyone considering a skiing holiday to purchase property insurance as the sport can be "quite a dangerous activity", particularly for beginners.
