Flights to foreign festivals on the up

[27th June 2008]

Low cost airline Jet2.com says there is more demand for flights to music festivals in Europe this year as the fickle British weather blights UK festivals such as Glastonbury.

With the prospect of more rain at the Glastonbury festival this weekend, many festival goers have become disillusioned with mud-soaked festivals in the UK and are looking to combine the festival experience with more or less guaranteed sunshine.

Low fares airline Jet2.com, based at Leeds Bradford airport, has come up with a new word for these European festival goers - Trevellers (travelling revellers).

“Europe’s festivals not only offer top musical acts but they also offer warm weather, an escape from the British rain and the chance to take an extended break in a European destination, for the new breed of ‘trevellers,’ says Jet2.com marketing manager, Jonathan Alcock.

The most popular festivals based on the number of enquiries, says Jet2, are the Benicassim Festival near Valencia in Spain which runs from 17-20th July, the Montreux Jazz Festival in Geneva from 4-19th July, and the Sziget Festival in Budapest from 12-18th August.

“Our data reveals that it is Europe’s top festivals such as the Benicassim Festival in Spain where party goers are headed this year. With flights to festival destinations available from Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Blackpool and Belfast, there is still time to be part of the new trevelling scene!,” Alcock says.
