Edinburgh launches tourism action plan
The Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG) has unveiled a new plan to boost the travel industry in the city.
The Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG) has launched a new programme of projects to boost the Scottish capital's travel market.
Ambitious plans have been put in place to enable expansion throughout 2008 and work towards a target of 63 per cent revenue growth by 2015.
Among the projects that ETAG hopes to commence in coming years is a second 'Taste of Edinburgh' event to be held in the city and an investment plan centred around the cultural venues in the city.
A 'Dragon's Den' style event could also be held for tourism leaders to identify ideas on how Edinburgh and Glasgow can collaborate more closely.
Scottish tourism minister Jim Mather said: "This ambitious action plan will both complement and drive forward the work already undertaken by ETAG and its partners.
"The Scottish government is committed to supporting the tourism industry, learning from successes like ETAG, increasing visitor numbers and positioning Scotland as a global leader in tourism."
The ETAG growth strategy sets a target of Edinburgh's tourism sector eventually being a £2.77 billion sector.
