More than 100 new hotels will be made available in Dubai over the next decade, according to reports.

The city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates will open an average of 11 new hotels every year for the next decade, according to reports.

Khalid bin Sulayem, director of the Dubai department of tourism and commerce marketing, said that more than 100 new establishments will be opened in the emirate in the next ten years.

There are currently 439 hotels in Dubai but this is expected to rise to 554 by 2017, Gulf News reports.

The room capacity offered by hotels and apartments is also expected to climb from the current 46,775 units to 127,100 units.

Upon making the announcement, Mr Bin Sulayem also revealed that Dubai's hospitality industry saw revenue of 6.4 billion dirhams (£830.4 million) in the first half of 2007.

''Dubai hotels and hotel apartments played host to 3.4 million guests during the January-June period," he added. "They stayed 10.2 million nights."
