Chile targets WTM '07
The Chilean tourist board is targeting the 2007 World Travel Market as an opportunity to promote the South American country.
The national tourist board of Chile has announced that it plans to take full advantage of the World Travel Market (WTM) this year to market the South American nation.
Turismo Chile will be officially endorsing its first ever UK awareness campaign at the 2007 event.
In 2006, travel to Chile from the UK increased by nearly 30 per cent in comparison to 2005, with a total of 58,500 visitors.
Between January and June alone this year the number of travellers heading from the UK to Chile had already reached 37,000.
"So far, 2007 has been a very good year in terms of visitor numbers and we will be looking to sustain this growth by continuing to invest and develop the country's tourism infrastructure," said Pablo Moll, chairman of Turismo Chile.
"We have just launched an intense trade and media campaign in the UK market. This includes a complete renovated image of Chile through new brochures which will be available at WTM, videos and a marketing strategy, as well as a brand new website - www.turismochile.travel."
There is set to be something of a tourist influx in Chile in January 2008, as the first month of the year is the warmest month in the country.
