Caribbean 'top choice' for overseas weddings
The Caribbean is the most popular option for people getting married abroad, according to a travel company.
The Caribbean is the most popular spot for couples getting married in a foreign country, according to long-haul travel company and wedding specialist Tropical Sky.
The organisation's figures over the past year show that St Lucia is the number one destination, with over 25 per cent of the weddings coordinated by Tropical Sky taking place there.
Barbados hosted 15 per cent of the company's nuptial events, making it the third most popular spot, followed by Tobago (12 per cent) and Antigua (11 per cent).
It was not only Caribbean destinations that made up the top five list, however, as Kenya was the second most popular place to get married for Tropical Sky customers, with 18 per cent of overseas weddings held in the African country.
Steve Garley, the company's commercial director, said: "The Caribbean has always been a popular destination for weddings; it's easy to get to, has great weather and has many two-centre options for those who wish to honeymoon on a different island.
"Kenya is also an excellent choice as it offers a breathtaking backdrop for a wedding coupled with the diversity of getting married in a game reserve, tree-house or in a balloon for those that want it!"
Mr Garley said that Mauritius, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Bali are among the other destinations becoming popular for weddings abroad.
