Canada launches ski campaign

The Canadian Tourism Commission UK has launched its winter campaign in the UK hoping to boost the destination's standing as a ski destination.

Maggie Davison, managing director of the commission, said that a good ski season is expected this year, with many resorts already seeing their first snowfalls.

"After some of the best ever snow conditions last year, Canada is definitely looking forward to a great season this year," she said.

"Add in increased airline capacity, the buzz building up around the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic games in Vancouver, we feel we can confidently say 'you haven't skied, until you've skied Canada'."

The campaign is being launched in partnership with the Canadian Destination Ski Consortium (CDSC), which is made up of leading winter sports resorts across the country.

Renata Cecconi, executive director of the CDSC, said that the UK is one of Canada's most important overseas markets.

Figures indicate that skiing and snowboarding trips account for ten per cent of travel from the UK to Canada.
