Brazilian tourism 'growing rapidly'
Brazil's tourism industry is going through a period of significant growth as a result of substantial investment, according to a property company.
As a result of a Brazilian government programme to develop tourism, more than $670 million (£331 million) has reportedly been invested in infrastructure improvements.
A spokesperson for Property Frontiers, which supports investment in the world's emerging real estate markets, said that a "significant proportion" of this financing has been directed into the north of the country.
"In the Natal region, the construction of the fourth largest airport in the world is underway and should bring in five million travellers a year," the Property Frontiers spokesperson said.
She added: "Tourism in the country is increasing rapidly and in the first eight months of 2006, international tourist arrivals experienced a 4.5 per cent growth from the same period of 2005."
The company representative also claimed that access to Brazil is improving, with daily flights available from many European cities.
British airlines offer direct flights to Sao Paulo from Heathrow, where a number of airport hotels are available.
