London 'best UK city'

The Group Leisure Industry Awards has named London the 'best UK city', it has been announced.

At a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, group travel organisers from major sports and social clubs, community associations, retired groups and others named London as the winner of the top city award.

James Bidwell, chief executive of Visit London, said that group travel is an important market for the city.

He added: "London is an ever-changing destination and there are always new attractions, theatre shows, exhibitions and events to keep group visitors entertained.

"It is great that London has been recognised in this way by the industry."

Rob Yandell, managing editor of Group Leisure, said that the English capital is one of the world's "leading cities" and "fully deserves" the title of the best UK city this year.

This is the sixth time that London has won the accolade since the awards began in 1997.

Travel Insurance - Holiday Extras insured over 750,000 people last year and were voted BEST Insurance provider and BEST website by the travel trade.
