Govt invests £10m in N. Ireland tourism
The government is investing £10 million in developing the tourism sector in the north-east region of Northern Ireland, according to reports.
A watersports centre in the town of Portrush and an initiative to improve signage along the Antrim coast road are among the projects that will benefit from the funding, BBC News reports.
When the signs are complete they will direct visitors along a coastal route that offers views of beautiful scenery.
Kathleen McBride, the Northern Ireland Tourist Board Causeway Coast development manager, said: "If tourists and visitors follow the route, they will see many attractions in the area - we want to keep them in the region and let them see that there's more than just the Giant's Causeway."
A plan to boost tourism in the Causeway Coast and Glens of Antrim region will see a total of £50 million invested over ten years.
Ms McBride explained: "The masterplan gave us an opportunity to focus those funds on projects that were already in the pipeline and could make an impact on the tourism sector."
